Connection not detected

I'm using a Sony DCR-TRV80 camcorder on a Sony Vaio Desktop and I can't get
MM2 to detect my camcorder. I'm using a firewire port and my computer has
one installed on it so I plug it in, turn my camcorder to "Video" mode and on
the camcorder screen it says "DV IN" so I know its connected but when I open
MM2 I get no luck with detection. I'm kinda new to this so any help would be
great.

Your camera realizes there is a cable plugged into the IEEE port but that
doesn't necessarily mean you have a connection. Does your computer play a
sound when you turn the camera on? If not then your computer doesn't see the
camera which could be a driver problem, a IEEE cable problem, or a IEEE card
problem.
If you have access to a friends computer or camera try a few things to
determine if the problem is hardware related.
Try hooking your camera to their computer.
Try using their firewire cable on your computer to see if it works.
Try hooking their camera to your computer.
