Connection issues

Hi

My computer doesn't seem to recognize the Internet. I lost the Local Area
Connection and there was no Make New Network feature. I finally got the the
Make New Feature connection and was able to create a Local Area Connection.
When I check the properties of the Local Area Connection, it was "enabled"
but I tried to connect to the internet and it did not work!

I tried to install new drivers but still no luck. Why can't I get on to the
Internet?

Thanks

A good starting point would be to provide full details about
your system and how it usually connects to the Internet. If
unsure what to report then ask someone with experience in
such matters to assist you.

How do you connect to the web? Is it via a network card or via a usb modem?

Have you checked there is not a problem with your ISP?

Hi there

The computer runs on Windows 2000. I use a network cable attached which
works when I use my laptop but not my new desktop.

The network connection is enabled but I can't seem to laumch Internet
Explorer.

Who is your ISP? Do they require special software to connect or just a
standard network card?

From a CMD prompt

type

ipconfig /all then enter on your desktop PC

What does it display?

Also check the NIC is enabled in Control Panel > Network and Dial-up
Connections

And check in Device Manager (Start> Run > type devmgmt.msc click OK) to
check the NIC is working and has correct drivers etc.
