Connecting two computers togather.

I bought a laptop with win 2000, I want to connect it to my pc that has win
98 on it so I can access folders and files on that tower and send them right
to my laptop? Part of my problem is that on my tower I was using Nero Burning
rom so I have a back up cd with files and folders on it that I can not access
on my laptop running win 2000 Nero wont even load. So I guess I am looking to
turn my old pc into a server for myself because I have programs on there that
wont run on win 2000.

These files were made to run on Win 98. They know nothing about Win 2k.

Again, these files are made to work on Win 98. They know nothing about Win
2k. Connecting your Win 2k computer to the Win 98 computer and running the
same files will have the same results as if you put the Nero CD in the Win
2k computer and tried to install it.
You would need to buy a version of Nero that work with Win 2k3 and install
that.

Run? Why do you assume he's talking about executable files? All he said
was "folder and files". He might well be talking about data files,
camera pics, video files, pdf files etc, etc. None of those have to
"know" about the operating system. He might well want to transfer them
to another machine and yes, it should be feasible to do so (which John
John addressed).

And even if an executable was originally written for Win98, that doesn't
automatically exclude it from running on Win2K ... plus there are still
quite a few current and recent programs that are written to run on
several Windows versions.

I took this to mean that he has backed up files and folders on the Win 98
computer using the Nero program.

on my laptop running win 2000 Nero wont even load.

I took this to mean that he tried to access those backed up files and
folders using Nero on his Windows 2000 PC and that version of Nero will not
install on Windows 2000.

So I guess I am looking to

<wont run on win 2000.

I took this to mean that the original poster "expects" to create a network
between the Win 98 and the Win 2k computers and by going through the
network, they can start the Nero program on the Win 98 machine, and have it
"present" itself (or better yet "serve") the program to the Windows 2000
machine without having the Nero program installed on the Win 2000 machine.

Make a little more sense :)
