Connecting front panel audio

I have a pc chips motherboard with headers for connecting front panel
audio, the problem is that the mic & headphone connections from my case
are 3.5mm jack plugs. is there a conversion lead available to buy,
rather than having to cut off jack plugs.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what your referring to, the front panel
would normally hook up at the MB's accessory pinout (e.g. the reset, power
HD LED's) or somewhere close to that.

Never seen a motherboard with 3.5mm jack plugs! Usually that type of
connector for the front panel audio is so you can simply plug the jacks into
the rear sound sockets, thus 'moving' the existing sockets to the front for
easier access...

There are two leads with 3.5mm jack plugs that come from the case's
front mounted headphone & mic sockets. They are not long enough to reach
to rear of soundcard. I toyed with the idea of cutting plugs off and
wiring direct to headers, was just wondering if there is an adapter out
there to save me the trouble.

yeah just get an extension cable 3.5mm female to male
radio shack or the equivalent...comes in various lengths

The thing is I wanted to connect the front sockets to the motherboard
so it can be used as a headphone socket, ie: disconncts the rear line
out whenever headphones are plugged in. If I just extend these cables
to rear of soundcard all i'm doing then is replacing rear sockets with
the fronts.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for all replies
