Connecting different Servers over Internet

Hello All,
I didn't know if this is the best group but couldnt' find any other
group that made sense to ask.

Currently, our organization has one domain in our LAN with multiple w2k
advanced servers with one server at a second site (different subnet within
the lan). However, we are working with one ISP and doing a wireless bridge
between the two. The problem is that the second site's service is awful.

So we want to move to each site having its own isp. The question is how do
you have the different servers communicate and replicate in the same way as
it currently does (I assume you can). I don't know what we are talking
about in this. Is this two lans within one wan? Do we need to set up a
wan? Does each lan need to be different domains? How do normal businesses
with multiple sites with different isps have their servers communicate and
replicate their information?

Please advise on how I should proceed and/or literature that can help. I
can't find good info on microsoft because at this point I don't even know
what I am looking for.

Also in case this is important, we are a healthcare facility and have
private information, does special procautions/ecryptions need to be done to
ensure that this information isn't traveling over the internet where people
can see it?

The answer is a VPN or Virtual Private Network.

In your case, i'ld suggest L2TP and IPSec as a secure encrypted Internet
tunnel.

thank you I will look into them. I should have thought about that as I do
VPN from home. Just didn't think about it for such things as syncronizing
data on the different servers and such; I will investigate that avenue.
Thank you.
