Connecting D-Link DI-804V VPN Router to D-Link DSL-500 ADSL Router

This is my first look at this NG and from reading past posts
I can see there is some very smart people out there that may
just have the answer to my problem .....

Background

(WIN2K servers and WIN2K clients)

I have a friend with identical router setups (see subject)
at two locations. In the past month his network usage
increased sufficiently for him to be concerned that
"something" is using his bandwidth. He asks my advice and I
said to change his passwords. Guess who he suggested to do
it for him . Thinking a 30 minute job, I agreed to do it
as a favour. Now I'm no networking guru, so I asked him for
all his documentation..... he doesn't have any!! Working my
way through the network I noted IP addresses etc and built
up some form of documentation. Downloaded the QIG from
D-Link for both products. Started at location B and
arranged for ISP to change PW at their end. I then changed
PW in ADSL router. All OK. Went to location A and repeated
procedure. Now, somewhere along the line, I could not
configure the ADSL router (wrong password or something) and
I had to do a hard reset, thus losing all configuration
information :-( .

Over the last couple of days I have managed to get the ADSL
router logging in to the ISP using the static address
(211.xxx.xxx.77). I can see the "Connected" message and the
ISP's addressing.

Now, along the way, I am sure I have missed a configuration
setting for allowing ADSL (211.xxx.xxx.77) to see VPN router
(211.xxx.xxx.78). I can ping VPN but not ADSL.

I read up on L2TP and IPsec with associated port numbers
etc. but have no idea where to set them up (VPN or ADSL or
both).

I am now stumped !! How do I get these routers to "see"
each other ?

Any help would be very much appreciated......

It's marvellous what a good nights sleep can do for the old
grey matter.

Obvious solution is to go back to location B and save the
configuration/s to file. Take them to location A, load
them, then change the IP addressing.
