Connect 2 computers using USB cable

I tried to link two computers using a USB cable. Both computer are running XP
with Service pack 3. I went in through Control Panel, Network Connections,
Create a new connection, Chose Set up an Advanced Connection, but Connect to
Another Computer is greyed out on one of the two, a Notebook.

How can I change this so that it is available?

Instead of using a USB cable, get your self a network crossover cable..

You need to use a special USB cable not an ordinary USB cable, I have a
Digitus (http://www.digitus.de) USB to USB Datalink Cable.

Use a Cat5 Crossover(not Patch Cable) Cable to link both computers.
Then run the wizard; info below.

Also, run the XP’s Home or Small Office Network File and Printer Sharing
Wizard, even if you had an XP Network set up prior to adding a Vista computer
to it(redoing the Wizard seems to work for XP machines!).

In “My Network Placesâ€: “Set up a Home or Small Office Networkâ€
OR under Accessories > Communications > Network Setup Wizard > Allow File
and Printer Sharing.
