Congratulations to Bitman, MVP

I can't recall seeing him around here in the last few days, but in the Spybot
forum I found a post announcing, a couple of weeks ago, that Bitman has been
given the Microsoft MVP award. Did anyone here know about this?

Anyway, hearty congratulations and many thanks, to Bitman. That was a great
piece of news to end this day with.

It is true and a hearty congratulations to Bitman, also known as
OneCareBear in the OneCare forums, where he is a fellow moderator.

He can now pander to MS's mantras by saying what a wonderful Windows
Defender is even if he doesn't believe in it!. MVP is a way to bribe
sycophants for free and buy their loyalties. You learn this when you do
MBA from MIcrosoft. Incidentally he doesn't have to hang around here for now until the time for renewal of his MVP is nearer!!!

He can also now confirm what a jolly good fellow he is when he has
nothing better to do than to waste his time around MS' NGs and promote
products which would otherwise costs millions if full-time staff were to
be employed!!

Show your support for Shilpa who has been victimised by other
participants on Big Brother show. Her only crime is to be glamorous yet
intelligent!

Utter nonsense. MVPs are free to do and say whatever we please and owe
Microsoft nothing. The award is given for the past year of
contributions to the community and has no strings attached. MVPs are
also, as a rule, much more vocal about the shortcomings of Microsoft
software offerings.

Well said, Stephen, and thank you for saying it. As well as being nonsense,
the post is sour, uncharitable, and offensive, and its implications possibly
libellous. I wish there were some way of removing it.

I would imagine your post has been placed to provoke comment rather than to
expect anyone to take it seriously. I have always seen MS MVPs as a dedicated
bunch of professionals who spend much of their spare time sharing knowledge
and helping those who are not so familiar with Microsoft products. They do
this (among other things), thru the mediums of blogs and hosting NGs like
this one which, for me, has been among the best I have seen. Full marks to MS
for recognising this and presenting those professionals with some form of
recognition.

The Shilpa issue has no place on this or any other MS NG. I think you would
be better advised to find an appropriate forum where you can better make your
views known rather than post an irrelevant URL.

Your post has been marked as not helpful, as rude, obnoxious, and
condescending, were not available options.

BTW, I've checked your previous posts,
"TROLL ALERT, TROLL ALERT, TROLL ALERT!!!

Thanks to everyone in this thread for your congratulations, I appreciate the
thought and even the negative poster, since it shows his obvious lack of
understanding quite clearly. Everyone here knows I've made comments about
issues with Defender I thought could use improvement and I do the same with
OneCare, as does Steve and all the other MVPs/Moderators. The only real 'Yes
Men' are the MS-Bashers themselves, who have no clue what's really going on
with their blinders in place.

I haven't been around here much lately, since I started a new job the day
after I received notice of the MVP award. I doubt I'll ever be able to post
as much again, but I also doubt it will be as necessary. We've seen the final
release versions of Defender, Internet Explorer 7, Windows OneCare 1.0 and
now 1.5 (Jan.30th) hit the streets and that was really my personal goal,
input at a critical time. My 3+ year involvement with Spybot S&D gave me
valuable insight into how users react to and perceive highly technical
applications.

I'm happy to be recognized and plan to take advantage of whatever personal
improvement it can provide. Hopefully what I learn can make my fewer posts
more valuable to the community, since that's what the award is really about.

It's the usual situation, you gain the access when you have less time to
take advantage of it.

I'm in much the same condition--extra work preventing as much time online.
I've no doubt, however, that there will be new challenges in the year
ahead--and that ways to compromise even the substantial security
improvements that the new releases you cite provide will be found.

Yes, I'm expecting we haven't really been able to see some of the exploits
already taking place due to all the noise created by completely vulnerable
systems. The biggest challenge this year will likely be getting these
existing improvements installed on as many PCs as possible, but that's not
something we can do much about ourselves.

I suspect that in about a year we'll have stopped hearing most complaints
about Internet Explorer 7, the Phishing Filter and most current malware,
similar to what happened when Win XP SP2 was released. As with SP2 however, a
few will never get these installed, so it won't really end until everyone's
on Vista.

Since Social Engineering is already common, it will be interesting to see
what the next big exploit will be. We've also seen the push towards other
applications and even cross platform exploits like Java Runtime or Acrobat
Reader. These will probably still grow as the pure OS vulnerabilities begin
to dry up.

I do expect a last gasp with older platforms too. For most this will end
their interest in maintaining these older OS versions and force them to
either Vista or an entirely different platform. This might even affect older
versions of Linux or the MAC. As the easy targets dry up the push to whatever
is available becomes more likely, since the exploits are often known, but
haven't been worth the effort until now.

Why don't you use an unobfuscated e-mail address?
If that is your real e-mail address?

I wonder if the "unobfuscated" email address is REAL.
If it is, he's a dumbshit!!!!

Parts of this thread are a good example about why the best response to
trolls is to ignore them. Please lets cut out the name-calling, regardless
of how justified, and stick with helping folks who need it--there's more
than enough of that work to go around.
