I have a compaq laptop and I got it from a friend who got it from someone
else anyway I have no idea how to wipe out windows 2000 because they couldn't
remember the password to it but now the xp won't run java to play games on
the internet one more question is there any difference between laptop and a
desktop as far as the softwear like is there a special windows xp for laptops
and another for desktops need help

might I suggest a little more detail of what specificaly you are trying to do??
If you have a XP CD you can do a new install formatting the hard drive in the
process which would get rid of 2000.
Take down your model number and go to the Compaq website for XP drivers for your
specific laptop.
In XP there is no difference between laptop and desktop
