Confused about iTunes

I saw an advertisement that iTunes is available for Windows (from 1 February 2004 ??) I checked out their site but got very confused as I couldn't work out whether I could download and use iTunes or not. Do you have to be in the US ? I know the payment is in cents/dollars - does this mean it's not available to the UK ? Also, I don't have Apple, an Apple account, Mac or a Mac account, an AOL account or an iPod of any description. I just have Windows XP and use the Windows Media Player to organise and play my MP3s etc.. My PC has a built in CD writer and player. I use Roxio software for CD burning

Basically I just need to know: can I download iTunes ? Can I use it to get Mp3s. Can I play them on Windows Media Player and can I burn them onto CD using the software/hardware I have ??

Thanks !

iTunes has been available for a few months now for Windows. Go to
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and download the Windows version.

I have been using it and like it alot - good music selection.

1) Here is a link to Apple's iTunes download:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/itunes.html
Note that under the box labeled "Download details" (top-right corner),
iTunes is labeled as "Freeware".

2) iTunes is not a P2P client, such as Kazaa Media Desktop. You will be
unable to download millions of .mp3 files "for free".

3) You will be able to download media files from the iTunes Music Store
in .mp3 format. To do this, you will have to set an option within
iTunes.

4) The price in the US for each media file is $.99 (99 cents). For
entire albums, the price is $9.99 (9 dollars and 99 cents). Some
albums cost more than others. I don't know what that is in Euros or U.K.
Pounds.

5) My experience with buying things from dealers in the EU was that I
had to pay a conversion fee. You will probably have to pay a conversion
fee to purchase things from US dealers.

6) Anyone can create an Apple account. You will be able to create an
Apple Account from within iTunes when you try to access the Music Store.

By the way, sometime this summer (hopefully), the European iTunes Music
Store will go on-line.

Thank you everyone for your help ! It will be much better if there is a European one soon ! I am amazed that it has taken so long for record companies to cotton on to methods of selling music with a service like iTunes. There's so much music that you simply can't get here in the UK unless you pay over the odds for imports or special orders, plus postage, packing, etc.. etc.. and even then there is no guarantee you will find what you want, especially if it has been deleted from the back catalogues. I am sure there are a lot of artists out there who would be delighted to be receiving royalties for music they did 20 or 30 years ago because a new generation of music fans want to buy it. So I am very much in support of iTunes - and I think 2004 will see a boom in online services !
