Config.msi

I have a folder, "Config.msi", in my root directory. I understand that it's
generated by Microsoft Installer. I have tried both Google and XP Newsgroup
searches and can't come up with a good answer. Does anyone know if it's safe
to delete it?

Thanks,
Milt

I came up with a good answer with a newsgroup search (mine, 5 years
ago) although the Office article is no longer available.

----------quote
"Microsoft Office 2000 Rollback"
http://support.microsoft.com/support/Office/OFF2K/rollback.asp

I have pointed out this paragraph from the article many times to those
with the folder left behind:

"Note: If Setup fails, because you lost power during Setup for
example, and you run setup again and it completes successfully, the
config.msi folder will be removed. If Setup fails to remove this
folder you can manually remove it using Windows Explorer. "

Those posters have removed the folder and none has reported any
problems as a result.
--------end quote

To get a second opinion, try here:

Once the program is installed you may delete this folder.

Hi Alan,

Was about to quote the very same thing of yours. Judging from Google, that
was a pretty hot topic!
