Computers can't see eachother on home network

I've noticed multiple posts concerning this problem and,
having read a lot of the responses, can't seem to find a
legitimate solution. We all seem to have the same
scenario: a home network that doesn't work. The
computers, shared folders, and printers are not
accessible from the various computers. Some, like mine,
USED to work perfectly but suddenly stopped, possibly due
to a windows update or service pack. Here are the
specifics for mine:

I have 3 computers (2 desktops and 1 laptop). The laptop
and one of the desktops are connected via Linksys
Wireless G hardware. The other desktop is hardwired
directly to the Linksys Wireless G Broadband router.
After running the network setup wizard on all 3, none of
the shared files/folders/printers/drives are viewable on
the others. All 3 have internet access via Internet
Explorer, no it doesn't appear to be a hardware problem.
An hour on the phone with the Linksys folks yielded no
solution either. We tried "pinging" all the computers and
were unsuccessful. The Linksys people seemed convinced it
was a software problem and told me to re-install windows
and/or contact Gateway (makers of my laptop). Tried both
of those but still no solution. To make things more
confusing, today they started working again...briefly.
Suddenly everything just started working today, but only
for about half an hour. NO CHANGES WERE MADE, they just
started and stopped recognizing eachother on the home
network. What's the deal? Is this a microsoft error?
There are no "brideges," the internet works, they
can't "ping" eachother, and neither Linksys or Gateway
knows what the deal is. PLEASE somebody tell me how to
fix this.

I would check firewall first.
