Since it is an intermittent problem, I don't
think it is an issue with the o.s.
it could very well be that
some of those games are not
very well written and if they
do get installed on the pc, then
they could also corrupt the system.
one thing that should "always" be
done is to create a restore point before
installing any program. Fortunately, the
well designed programs will make a restore point.
I usually don't have any problems with
installing software. However, I do so from
download sites like downloads.com and

If by chance you have a feeling that it is
the o.s. having a problem, then you might want to do a
windows repair as prior downloads may
have corrupted system files.
On the otherhand you might use the freeware above
to see if it can stabilize your system with
downloading and installing programs. It would
also double-check the downloaded file to the
file on the website to ensure it was not
corrupted while downloading.

They do have a forum and post issues with software's
However, I'm a bit leery about that site. Doesn't seem
to provide an assurance that they are
providing "tested" and "viral" free programs. It's like
download at your own risk kind of website.
I think that the "2 points" would add
value to the service, if the "2 points" were
provided as a guarantee on their site.
I'm a bit old fashion and have a few
arcade games myself like asteroids and
pacman and they installed easily and
were virus free. Here is the site if your interested
