Computer used in Hollywood

While viewing the 2nd DVD disc of Star wars III (behind the scens makings).
I was wondering. What kind of computers they used to process the graphics
and animation for the movie?

Apples
Suns (Alpha Sparc)
Silicon Graphics
or Intel based

Yes.

I don't have the reference, but not long ago, one or some of the 3D
animation developters replaced all their Mac's for Opteron render farms

i'll try to find the link

however, I am sure there are all sorts of computers in use and I am not
really sure if it will give you any valuable info, even if you were told
which brand and how many, it is still beyond most mortals to setup IMHO

It's at the end of the Credits...AMD Opteron.

No Intel.
No Apple.
No Sun.
No Silicon Graphics.

Other movies rendered on AMD Opterons:

Sin City
Madagascar (every single frame).

AMD Opteron. It's at the end of the credits. Movie shot using digital
cameras and edited on AMD Opterons fed into DLP screens and projectors.

Purely AMD Opterons, in conjunction with DLP technology for the
screens/projectors.

Its at the end of the credits.

From the chief sound engineer at Technicolor (a personal friend), they
use pretty much everything.

You don't think AMD pays any promotional fees or supplies platforms for
those credits, do you?

Nahhh. Nobody EVER does ANYTHING like THAT...

Your friend is wrong...

The movie was made using *only* AMD Opteron processors.

AMD paid no money for the credits.

No more than Panaflex pays for the credits when it's cameras are used, or
Dolby or Sony pay for the credits when their audio schemes are used.

You asked a question. You were given an answer. You argue about the
answer.
What is your problem?

Actually, if you read the press release on the website, it explains in
detail how the movie was made.

ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) and Dreamworks are now both using AMD
Opterons on HP systems. No other systems were used in editing/post
production.

You are an idiot. At least I *can* read.

Yeah, you're right. He's only the the chief sound engineer. He
wouldn't know anything about movies.

In reality, all different kinds of computers are used. Whatever can
give the right effect. They don't care about brand or processors, only
quick results.

Do you always troll by posting stupid messages like these or are you
just that naive?

Now that is unadulterated bullshit and completely unsupported in a
production environment. Some of these bozos will use a Radio shack CoCo
if it did what they wanted. (BTW, and they have used a CoCo).

But apparently only at a second grade level. And you clearly don't
understand the production or post production process.

I get a kick out of this thread.

Some people sure know more than the rest of us. I guess that's
because they think they're so well connected. Kind of makes them
extra special in a warm fuzzy kind of way. Well maybe just fuzzy.

Hey when one of you special kind of guys actually knows something
because YOU work there. Let us all know.

And let us know how Lucas apologized to you for the credits on his
movie when you marched into his office and called him on it. Let us
know what kind of raise he gave you for that one too.

Oh, you DON'T WORK THERE ? so sorry.

My favorite thread was a few years ago. A couple of guys were telling
another guy how he could NOT know so much about what computer Pixar used
at the time. He probably didn't know anything......etc.

Another guy jumped in and told the other guys to look at his email
address. (e-mail address removed)

Not that anyone here is employed. Just was very funny. Shut the other two
right up.
