computer unexpectedly goes into standby mode

I have an Asus A8N5X, Athlon 64 3200+ cpu, and 1gig of memory. I'm running
Windows XP Pro. My computer will go into standby mode for no apparent
reason. When I power it back up it tells me my battery is low and I should
replace my battery in my UPS. I then check the battery and it shows that it
is fully charged. In trying to solve this dilemma I need to know if this is
a hardware problem (with a setting for the MB) or if it is a software
problem. Can someone offer a possible solution?

are you using a UPS? if so, when was the last time you replaced it? if
it's >1 year old, it's probably wearing thin, causing your computer to
standby.

if it's >2 years old, you NEED to replace the battery or UPS unit -- the
battery won't give you anything benefitial.

Good Luck,

That's kind of what I expected, but I've never had a low battery
automatically kick the computer into standby and then when I brought it see
that the battery still shows fully charged.

Good Luck,

I have a UPS that is over 5 years old. I have my cable modem, firewall
and switch on this UPS. When I unplug the power from the wall the
UPS beeps and the units keep on working.
This behavior happens to me intermittently if I power my PC on before
the UPS is done doing its system check. I then have to power down
all the way to the wall outlet.
