Computer turns itself off

I have a problem where my windows xp computer keeps turning itself off whilst
running large programs such as games, editing software and sometimes the
Internet.

I dont have a clue what to do. Any chance of some help.

Thanks

This won't fix your problem, but it'll keep your machine from rebooting,
unless the rebooting is caused by a hardware problem. To fix that you need
to fix the hardware problem.

It may also help reading a BSOD. Blue Screen Of Death.

Choosing recovery actions if Windows stops unexpectedly.

Right click My Computer | Properties | Advanced tab |
Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery |
Under System Failure | UNCheck: Automatically restart |
Click OK | Click Apply | Click OK

Automatically restart

I tried this and didnt work, its only occured the last few days.
Before I could open any program with ease.
But now whilst saving a movie file in windows movie maker the computer will
turn off, which it has never happened before as well as loading games and
playing dvds. Tried checking for viruses but the computer turned off. I think
it is more a software problem than hardware im not 100% sure though.

thanks

It may be that your computer gets too hot and turns off to save itself.

Make sure all of your fans are running, clean and the air flow is
unobstructed.

Try and speak to your computer manufacturer if you are not sure what fan it
is. A Dell Inspiron had the same problem, so I phoned up Dell, and they
helped me find the issue.
