I have 4 computers running Windows XP connected to a DSL modem through a
4-port router. When 3 of them are plugged in they can all access the internet
fine, but when the 4th computer is connected to the network, all of the
computers internet access is lost. There are no errors, no program closures,
and the router software shows all computers still connected to the network.
When all computers except the trouble maker are physically disconnected from
the network and the router is repowered, the troubled computer has no problem
accessing the internet. It seems that only the single computer, or the other
3 can access the internet, but not all four together. I have tried all
configurations and combinations and have concluded that the problem is not
the other 3 computers or the router, but has something to do with the 1
computer. I have checked the network and TCP/IP settings, which all seem to
be set as usual.
Could you please help me figure out why the one computer shuts down the
internet on the other computers on the network, but is able to run fine when
plugged into the router on its own.
