This could be a driver issue for your graphics adapter etc.
After format. what and how did you reinstall?

Try installing a real driver for your video.

More than likey you can find the right drivers at

http://www.ati.com

or

http://www.nvidia.com

First, install all necessary motherboard drivers. Then install the latest
stable version of video drivers for your video card. Get them from the
manufacturers web site - not from Microsoft Windows Update.

I reinstalled all the drivers from a cd that came with my puter and then went
to various web sites for updates but it's still starting in 8 bit......but
when my son goes into his account everything is ok....I have everything
enlarged because it's easier to see.....getting to be as blind as a bat;) and
he says it's because I have everything enlarged....but I also bought Luxor
from Real Arcade and it won't run either...the demo ran but the full version
won't....any other ideas?

Well you've answered it yourself!
It is the settings in your profile!
As for the software issue - ask the vendor.

Did you use the Accessibility Wizard to enlarge your screen elements?
If you did. you may want go back inside the Wizard and see what settings you
are operating under, for example, "High Contrast" and the like.
