Please someone help!

My computer keeps shutting itself off, i don't mean shut down its like the
power cuts out. Some time in won't do it for days and then it will do it 2-3
times in one day.

I tried reinstalling xp but it won't let me, it gets to the F8 I AGREE page
or a bit further then cuts out. I have tried reinstalling 20times and same
thing happens.

I tried different ram but that didnt make a difference.

Some please im going mad with this.

Specs are:
AMD athlon 1700
512RAm
128mb Nivida graphics
Win XP SP2

Hi,

You're going mad because you are trying to resolve a hardware issue with a
software approach. It won't work. The shutdown is likely self protection
initiated by the motherboard because it has detected and unsafe overheating
condition. Check that the fans are all operating correctly and that the
vents are not clogged by dust. You may need to replace the cpu fan as well.

Hi many thanks for your reply.

I have checked all the fans and they seem to be working ok. Also i can leave
the computer off for a day and then go to install xp and it will shut down.

It cant be overheating as it's only on for 2mins before shutting off. Plus i
have 3 extra fans and the side is off the case all the time.

leave the case off , up close aim the biggest fan you have at it.
my little fans spin nicely but the cfm drops to near nothing when they build
up a little crud on their leading edges which is a bit of a pain to
peel/scrape off.

When our computer used to shut itself off like that, it was caused by the
power supply (PSU) going bad.
