computer restarts when logging in

When I click on a profile, my computer says "Loading your personal
settings..." then immediately restarts itself. This happens even when I try
to go in through safe mode. I don't get any blue screen or STOP error. The
computer just restarts and goes back to the same screen with the profiles
that are on my computer. This happens when I click on any of the profiles on
my computer.

Any ideas on how to fix this other than using the restore disk that came
with my computer? If I use the restore disk, it overwrites everything on my
computer.

Thanks!

You might care to look at the string I initiated on the same subject, in
which Ramesh provided excellent advice. (Search under "logging on" in the
Winows XP Help and Support forum.)
