Computer Reboots with modem online and running processor heavy applications

Marc Banks

Anyone on here have any ideas?
I'm running a
-Gigabyte ga-inxp motherboard, hyperthreading capable, and
8x agp
-1024mb
-2.4ghz pentium chip
-80gb hdd
-dvd
-cd-rw
-Jalton 3dforcefx 5600 with 256mb on board memory.

The deal is the computer keeps crashing (and thus making
me reboot it) every time I get online and do anything
beyond normal surfing, crashes during downloads, and other
seemingly minor things. Also event viewer displays the
error
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 9/15/2003
Time: 12:18:24 AM
User: N/A
Computer: comp
Description:
The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to
the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is
disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated
with it.

the message is too general for me to figure it out, any
ideas?

I'll come up with a couple of starting suggestions....

What is the PSU wattage.....
Do you have adequate cooling...
Is the LPT (parallel) port enabled in the BIOS settings...

Sudden reboots are often caused by overheating.... look at 1 and 2 before
you move on to 3. At least 420watts... suggest even 500 for your system.
