I worked on an HP Pavillion with XP, that instead of shutting down, it
would restart. But the nanual button worked, while the computer was
under BIOS control. Nothing I tried worked, and was nearly ready to
relegate it to the Scrap heap. On a lark, I unchecked "automaticly
restart on BSOD." Here's what happened, the next time I shut it down:
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
AHA! Computer was restarting because Windows told it to. After Removing
various cards, I concluded that the onboard audio was causing this
problem. Upon disabling it, computer shut down normally. Inserted a
standard PCI audio card. Problem solved.
Just thought I'd pass that on in case any one runs across that mystery
bug.
