Computer keeps turning off

Hi, hope someone can help!

My laptop keeps turning itself off at random times, usually in the
middle of me doing something. I usually have it on all day, only
turning it off when I go to work. It is about 2-3 years old, a Balance
comp. w/XP... is it overheating, or something worse?
