"Computer is infected" - but MSAS shows "No Known Issues Detected"

I recently downloaded the MSAS software after being notified that my computer
was infected. In the initial scan, it detected about 16 threats. Once I
rebooted, the the red circle with the X that indicated my computer was
affected still showed up. I repeated with 5 more and came up with 0 threats.

I was prompted to "allow" or "block" items upon startup. Well, I did not
know that "winstall.exe" was the executable file for SpySheriff. After much
frustration not knowing how to stop this notice from appearing and having to
repeatedly run the scan over and over 4 more times to no avail, I deleted the
file from my c:/drive. That did not do anything, because after 4 more scans,
the same file "SpySheriff" was detected and removed, but the red circle with
the X still remains and notifies me that my computer is infected.

How do I remove this file that seems to reappear. Below is the notice to
add this file to the startup registry - which was in error.

Startup Registry Files alert

The user has decided to allow the startup file c:\winstall.exe to be added
to the Windows startup registry
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run).

Please help.
