computer freezes at startup AFTER everything is loaded

Okay, here is my problem. My computer freezes on me 25%
of the time whenever I reboot. It freezes after
everything has loaded (including the sys tray). Sometimes
I even get to move the mouse and inch before it freezes
on me. Please help!

Try this for troubleshooting: Go to Start | Run and type the word msconfig
in the box, then press OK.
A property sheet opens, and the last tab shows you what else starts when you
start Windows.

Uncheck one item at a time, to prevent it from starting with Windows, then
re-start your computer. You might find that one of these items is the source
of your problem. It's a little tedious, since you have to uncheck one item,
restart, see if your problem occurs, put the check mark back and uncheck the
next one, restart, etc. Hey, nobody said troubleshooting was fun.

Once you find the offending startup item, you will also know which program
is causing the problem.

Check the Event Viewer and see if the problem is being logged.

Good Luck...

delete the contents of the prefetch folder.
normally located at
c:\windows\prefetch
just the contents not the folder.
then reboot
