computer fails to boot.

i am running win 2k with sp4 on PIII machine with 128 MB
of rams. whenever booting the computer , a ONE long beep
sounds the bios fails to check or start and the computer
is dead, no error code nothing except for the one long
beep that sounds.
i switch off the computer and have to change the memory
from one bank to another to succeed booting the computer.
as long as the computer is running everything is ok. once
i switch off ad back on i encounter the same problem; a
one long beep sounds, no error code on the screen:)
actually nothing appears on the screen.
what's likely to be the problem and what iam supposed to
do.? i appreciate your input regarding this

Depending on the type of BIOS you have, a long continous beep could mean
various things, usually it's a keyboard problem when the BIOS detects a key
is pressed down when booting.

Find out what BIOS you have (usually can tell from looking at the
sticker/writing on the BIOS chip) then have a look at this site for the
details on the error code:

Or possibly check the motherboard manufacturer site, they might have
specific codes for your motherboard.
