computer crshes when playing videos

Whenever I go to play videos the sound will play but the
there is no picture and the computer freezes.
Anyone know what the problem might be?

If you are using an older computer, you might not have enough processing
power to uncompress the video. If the video is compressed(mpeg/wma), than it
will use up significant resources. Uncompressed videos will use less
processor, but will use much more RAM
