computer crash now need lost data

my old computer had a power surge during a storm and I believe it burned
up the motherboard. It wouldn't start or anything. I bought a Dell
computer and now I am trying to get the data from my old Western
Digital 80G hard drive. I can retrieve data from every folder that was
not password protected. I can't get into the one folder that was
password protected and it has all of my family pictures that I
desperately want back to put on my new hard drive.
How can I get past the password? Every time I click on the folder it
says "access denied" i can't move it to the shared folder because it
says the same thing "access denied". Is there anything I can do that
will allow me to get in and get the pictures out? I have tried to make
the new hard dive the 'slave' and the new one the 'master' but still the
same response "access denied". Can anyone give me advise?

You need to disable Simple File Sharing and take ownership of
the files. Take a look at these articles for more info:

shared folder in Windows XP

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Good luck
