When trying to connect to a 2000pro workstation from my
2000 server i get the erro computer
\\computer.hq.domain.com cannot be managed. The network
path was not found. I looked in the knowledge base and
read KB262597. But thats not the problem with this case.
What Im trying to do is ad a domain user as a local admin
and thats when i get the error. Thanks in advance

FQDN's do not need to be preceded by the double backslash. Try entering the
computer name as computer.hq.domain.com instead.

Verify also that you can resolve that name to an IP address by using ping or
nslookup.

This behavior can occur when the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) configuration is using the incorrect IP address for the
Domain Name Service (DNS) or WINS server on your network, or when no name
server IP addresses are specified.
Also you can find more information with respect to this problem in this Link
