compression problems in xp

I have noticed something peculiar wth XP or late, and that is that is
is compressing some files in a folder seemingly at random.

For instance in the "My Pictures" folder i have a number of pictures
(about 30 or so) and about half of them the file name is in blue,
indicating a compressed state. I did not compress them.

I have noticed this behaviour in various other system folders too. In
the system 32 folder there is a number of DLL files that are
compressed there as well. I have never compressed any files under the
windows directory

Does anyone have any ideas what might be up here ? Is there a way to
uncompress the XP compressed files globally instead of individually ?

Thanks

Open Start/../system tools/disk cleanup, and put a check in the 'compressed
files' item.

Go to Start>My Computer>rightclick local disk(C)>Properties
Untick "Compress drive to save disk space"
Click Apply and OK
