Compression in powerpoint

Hi,
What kind of compression is used in powerpoint? I have decoded the
powerpoint data into its component streams (Pictures and
PowerPointDocument), but each stream is compressed. I would like to
know what the format of those streams are to decompress them.

Jon,

I haven't a clue on this one, and I don't believe ms makes it public, what
compression method they use.

Hi Jon,

I don't know why you would want to get to that data, but the XML formats
that Office 2007 will feature are a lot easier to use and take apart.
Essentially a file in the new format will be a ZIP file that contains a
few folders and a lot of individual XML files. Images, media and other
stuff will simply be included as files in there. So for example a JPEG
will just be a JPEG file in the zip archive.
To find out more about the new file formats, read Brian Jones blog:
http://blogs.msdn.com/brian_jones/default.aspx
And download Office 2007 Beta 2. Microsoft will provide software so that
Office XP and 2003 can open the XML formats as well. In fact, those
updates are currently available as public beta as well.
