"Compress Old Files"?

In the Disc Cleanup utility, the "Compress Old Files" isn't working as it
used to. Now I always have about 354,700 K leftover after clicking OK. Is
there some files registering as "Old" but cannot be compressed for some
reason or other? ie system files, zip files, etc...? or is it something
else?

Are any of these files encrypted? File encryption and file compression are
mutually exclusive, so you may have files that fit the rules for disk
cleanup that can't actually be compressed...

Or there's an explorer thread that's got a handle on them that it's not
giving up. Like when you can't delete a file for the same reason.

Ok I found the registry thread as shown on line 48 as you said, but once
there, (in registry) what do I do?

Ok (I used FireFox browser to click on the link in the page so nothing
happened, just showed it in edit mode) I used IE to download the regedit
file and (thankfully) backed up registry first, as after I installed the
regedit file I no longer had the compress option listed in Disc Cleanup.
So... is that how it worked for you? what did I do wrong?
