Compatibility between 2003 and 2007?

I have to give a PowerPoint presentation for one of my classes at school.
However, the presentation was created using PowerPoint 2007 on my laptop
which runs Vista, but all the computers at school run XP and use the 2003
version. Considering all I'll be doing is saving the presentation from my
email and projecting it from a school computer, will there be any
compatibility issues? What can I do to avoid them?

Sarahhh,
From powerpoint 2007, You will have to SAVE AS a "Powerpoint 97-2003"
presentation. As part of saving the file, powerpoint will check for
incompatibilities and give you a report. Things that will fail: Smart Art
Graphics, and the cool graphics that make raised buttons. If you used just
the capabilities that are available in 2003, then you are safe.

Not totally safe. Ensure you only use fonts that are available from the
Office 2003 and/or Windows XP installation on the school's computer. If you
use a font that you have installed on the home computer and it is not on the
school's computer you will have text box sizing issues which may cause your
text to not be totally visible. Embedding a font may not solve the problem
of font incompatibility.

Are you thinking of using video or sound in your presentation? If so create
a folder in the root of the hard drive for the PPT presentation and copy in
all of the media files. Create the PPT presentation and save as Thoman
said, copy the entire folder to the school's computer for a flawless
performance. While "Publish, Package for CD" is an option to create the
folder and links I have had issues before with it.

Never had an issue my way (unless the destination computer didn't have the
proper codecs for a .mpg file and that is why I always use .wmv video files
in my PPT presentations now.)

In addition to the other responses you've received, you should be aware that
charting will be an issue going back and forth. But I'm talking about
editing / creating the file in both 2007 and 2003.

If all you're doing is projecting, though, there shouldn't be any issues.

Oh, wait. Maybe a couple. One is the soft shadows in PPT 2007. They come out
as hard-edged shadows in PPT 2003. Another is SmartArt animations. But if
you stay away from those you should be okay.

How can I view PowerPoint 2007 files on the computer with PowerPoint
2003?

Solutions1. Resave the PowerPoint 2007 presentation in PowerPoint
97-2003 format.
Step 1: Open the PowerPoint slide show.
Step 2: Click Microsoft office button, and click Save as. Then
choose PowerPoint 1997-2003 presentation in the file type dropdown
list.

2. Use the Package a Presentation for CD feature in PowerPoint 2007.

You can package your presentation to the CD for distributing freely.
To packages a presentation for CD, do the following:
Step1: In PowerPoint, open the presentation that you want to package.
Step2: Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to the arrow next to
Publish, and then click Package for CD.
Step3: In the Package for CD dialog box, click Options, and then
select the options that you want.
Step4: Click Copy to CD.

Disadvantages of the solutions above:
Some of the effects in PowerPoint 2007 would be lost. The solutions
below can solve the problems caused by version difference and avoid
the missing problem.

3. Download and install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 file formats.

4. Download the free PowerPoint Viewer 2007 directly from Microsoft
Office Online

5. Use some third-party tools to convert and burn PowerPoint
presentation to DVD
Wondershare PPT2DVD enables users to convert existing PowerPoint
presentations to dynamic DVD with stunning DVD menus or popular video
movies with ease .After conversion, you can view your PowerPoint slide
show on TV or on PC like a movie without any version difference or
compatible problem. What’s more, you can even choose to create DVD to
play in manual mode which enables you to navigate the slide show using
remote control on TV or mouse on PC.
You can download PowerPoint to DVD burner and have a try right now.
Hope it helps.
