Compaq Presario - Cequadrat

Stacey

I have a Compaq Presario 7470 that came with a CD-RW and
the software for the burner is Cequadrat Just!Burn.
I have upgraded my computer to Windows XP and since
cannot read my CD burner. The CD drive works but when
loading the Cequadrat, I get a Just!Burn error that tells
me No CD Recorder Found. I have called Compaq and they
tell me to call tech support with Radio Shack. Radio
Shack tells me to contact Windows XP. Cequadrats site
doesn't give me squat and there is no tech support for
them. Anyone got any ideas?

This from Compaq site re: XP upgrade:
Compaq is unable to guarantee how Windows XP will function on a PC not
originally designed or tested for this new operating system. Compaq Presario
Desktop PCs that shipped with Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me
pre-installed, were not tested with Windows XP. Compaq could not recommend
upgrading where it could not guarantee a high level of compatibility for all
basic hardware and software components of the PCs. PC device drivers
(including graphics, BIOS, chipset, etcetera) for some PC components may
simply not be available (now or in the future) as some parts manufacturers
are no longer in business or have made business decisions to not provide
updates for Windows XP. The addition (by the PC owner) of a wide variety of
third-party software and peripherals to the system may complicate a Windows
XP upgrade. Software pre-installed on the PC at purchase may require
upgrades to the new XP-compatible version, if available, and at an
additional cost. Contact the software company directly. Compaq's warranty
and support cover only the original pre-installed operating system and
software. Technical support for the "off the shelf" or "retail" version of
Windows XP will be provided by Microsoft.

Stacey,

Because CeQuadrat Just!Burn is not compatible with Windows XP. There is a MS-KB for this. And, to use other third-party burning software, your CD-RW drive [in Presario 7470] must be compatible with Windows XP. Otherwise, it will function as a normal CD-ROM drive. Try to use the XP built-in recording feature and see if it detects the drive as CD-RW.
