"comment reference"

I pasted some text into a document and it was designated "comment reference";
I can't change it to another designation. Why not?

Hi Lon

Try triple-clicking the offending paragraph, and then do ctrl-q and the
ctrl-spacebar. Does that work? If not, post back and let us know what
version of Word you're using.
