Comma format for numbers in Excel

In India, we use the metric system of units, but for numbers, we use the unit
"LAKH" for 100,000 and "CRORE " for 10,000,000 [ten million]. The comma
placement for 1 lakh is 1,00,000 and for 1 crore is 100,00,000. Literally
"lakhs" of Indians would like to use this format in their spreadsheets, but
I'm not able to find a way to get this format in Excel in Office XP [or
indeed in any older version of Office].

Does anyone know a way ?
