Combining Nero and Movie Maker

Does anyone know if it is possible to arrange all of my photos, music and
credits in Movie Maker then open it in Nero to add transitions? I have so
many neater ones in Nero that I would like to combine the two softwares for
one movie.

If it's been done, what do I need to save it under in Movier Maker, DV-AVI
or would high quality work?

Thanks.

I use Moviemaker and Nero 7
i think you will have to use nero all the way if you want to use
transitions in Nero, Adding transitions once the soundtrack is already
set will cause fundamental problems. You could do the titles in MM and
add the transitions and music in Nero.
however

I use Moviemaker because of performance and Nero to create the DVD which
moviemaker doesnt do..

Nero allows you to organise clips (though not as well as Moviemaker in
my experience) and
Moviemaker has all the transitions I would want to use so I'm not sure
what restrictions you are trying to get around.

If you want to use MM you may be better off describing the transition
that you want and someone may be able to help you

Yes it can be done. You probably want to arrange the photos in Photostory
which is free from the Microsoft site. From there, I'd probably do whatever
you need to do in Nero and then import it all into Moviemaker. Wojo
actually has a example of this on his website. http://www.Wojos-web.co.nr
Just click on the 'My Showcase' tab and then on the Sample of Tools links on
the left. Good luck.

Hi Newtechie

WOJO's is a great site! I particularly like the use of ULEAD GIF
animator which I haven't seen before.

In the example, he has combined several products, however the first four
are to create components while MM is to put it all together? ie
transitions and music.

The following is targeted at my interpretation of the detail of Pat's
requirement rather than a general question of whether you can use one
product with another.

In Pats requirements:
- Add Photos (in Moviemaker)
- Music (in Moviemaker)
- Credits (in Moviemaker)
- Transitions (in Nero) (Note that I run a full version of Nero and am
interpreting this as transitions between scenes in a movie not
compositing a DVD)

I don't believe Wojo tried to add music before the transitions, this I
believe fundamentally cant be done. This is because:
- (add photos, credits) are actually applied to individual components
- transitions apply between components and
- music generally applies (and therefore requires continuity) across the
entire movie.
You must add music with or after the transitions if the music crosses
several scenes.

Pat can probably do the following:

Alternative A:
Pass 1: Photos and credits in MM
Pass 2: Transitions in Nero
Pass 3: Music in Moviemaker

But each pass causes degradation(particularly in MM), involves added
complexity and in musics case MM probably adds no intrinsic value so why
not add the music in Nero.

Alternative B
Pass 1: Photos and credits in MM
Pass 2: Transitions and Music in Nero
This has less degradation and a simpler process

Further, depending on the detailed requirements, it may be (though by no
means certain) that Nero has all the function required and Moviemaker
potentially also either has or can be extended to have all the
functionality required. Therefore it may be possible to use a single
product using a simpler process with less degradation due to multiple
passes.

Thanks for your help. I went to Wojo's site. Very helpful. I already have
Photo Story but prefer to assemble my titles, credits, photos and music in
Movie Maker. I'm just having a difficult time adding transitions to it
through Nero. Since I have to do my authoring in Nero, I wanted Nero to be
my last stop with the transitions. I have emailed Nero tech support, removed
the software and reinstalled it. I'm still not able to insert transitions
into my movie. The answer is out there.......somewhere. Thanks, again.

Hi Pat
Can you advise what you mean by transitions? If it is transitions
between scenes in a single movie then you shoul not add them at the end.
If it is chapters within a movie I may be able to help.

What is the end result you are creating....
ie - do you want a single movie on a dvd with fades at the chapters?

Do you own a full version of nero? Which version? Note When I only had
an OEM version I did not have movie transitions, though different oem
versions have different capabilities
