COM Ports only one need 2

I just looked at my hardware profile and only find COM1, of course my modem
needs COM3, but when I look at my IRQs the is only COM1, and no other COMs.
When trying to configure the modem in WIN FAX PRO, when it checks for COM
ports, it finds COM1 find, but then the computer crashes when it looks for
the other COM ports.

How do I add another COM port?

Sounds like you need to download the proper XP driver for your modem.

The com port assignments you see in the Ports section are the physical com
ports on the computer. The modem is its own com port, but that number
shouldn't appear in Ports. As a matter of fact, if you add more ports to the
Ports section, the modem won't be able to use them (even if you assign them
by force) as those are seen as being reserved for the physical ports on the
computer.

I'd suggest deleting the ports, deleting everything to do with your modem,
rebooting the computer and seeing what happens. If all is working correctly,
the modem will grab whatever it needs, Windows will see it as a new hardware
device, and you will be able to add whatever drivers you need for the modem.

If Windows doesn't see the modem or the modem refuses to grab an appropriate
port, give up and buy another one. Modems are so cheap these days that
troubleshooting one for hours is pretty senseless.
