Columns and page numbering

I have created a 150 page cookbook for my child's school. It has turned out
beautifully and is complete except for page numbering. I want to pull my
hair out! I've been working at this for 3 days! Is it completely impossible
to number pages in a document that has many sections of columns? I
understand that the columns create section breaks, but I need them! The
ingredient sections for each recipe is in a column format. I cannot change
that. In searching for an answer I read where someone who had the same
problem just inserted a text box on each page and manually numbered the
pages. I have created an index...that will have to be deleted from the
project if I have to resort to that.

Please help!

I'm not sure how this will affect your Index, but it will allow you to put
page numbers associated with your recipe's:

Thank you, but I tried it and it didn't work. Possibly because the entire
page is not columned. Each page has maybe two recipes and each recipe has
it's own section of columns. Thanks anyway.

Provided that every section has numbering set to "Continue from previous
section," there should be no issue with page numbering, but if numbering
ever got restarted, especially in one of those inaccessible multi-column
sections, then this can be difficult. Wherever the numbering is going wrong,
place the insertion point in the suspect section and go to Insert | Page
Numbers. Click Format, change to "Continue...," OK, and then be careful to
click Close rather than OK to leave the Page Numbers dialog.
