Color Problem after XP Professional Install over Win 98

I have a very curious problem. I installed XP
Professional over Win 98. Encountered a few problems
during the install but it completed ok and upon subsequent
booting of the computer it came up seemingly perfectly.
Nice colorful graphic as wallpaper as expected.

However, as soon as I activate any application (Explorer
for example) all of the nice colors turn to grey
tones...except that objects show up in color (for example
the exit "X" button).

When I call up the help screen to try to figure out what
is going on I can't even read some of the help text
because the text is white on a white background.

Has anyone else seen this? And, if so, what do I do to
correct it?

Hmmm, I had this problem when running an application a
certain way. But since this happens for ANY app then it
could be a problem. If you notice when you right click a
program or shortcut TO a program, and then click
properties, and then click the Compatibility tab, it
shows various different way. Make sure nothing says to
run in 256 colors or to run in compatibility with Windows
95 or something like that. Other than that, check your
video card, and make sure you have updated your drivers
for it.
