"COLON+ENTER" locks up PC in WORD

I recently got a new PC. Whenever I type a colon :)) and hit ENTER in Word,
my PC locks up - e.g. "Dear Sir:". I have Windows 2000 and Microsoft Office
was just re-installed. A virus check found nothing. I can type a colon and
hit the space bar and it's OK. How can I correct this?
