codec not installed message

I was able to use Virtual Dub to change my MPG2 file to AVI using the
panasonic codec, but when I try to import, I get the same error message that
the codec needed to play the file isn't installed. I played around with
turning off the filters, but I never could get that to make a difference.
What am I missing? Anyone know what else I can try?

Thanks!

I am having the same problem since I changed movie cameras and they told me
at the store that there is another version of Movie Maker that accepts MPEG.
Does anyone know if this is correct ? I'm feeling rather stressed about the
whole thing.
as I have enjoyed using Movie Maker and want to continue.
