codec error in Windows Media player-help

Hi,
thanks i advance for your help.

I downloaded one movie from the internet and I would like
to see it. But it gives me a codec error:

You have encountered the following error while using
Windows Media Player:

Error# C00D11CD
whatever it is. I have Media player series 9 for Windows
XP. What is this thing and why can't I watch any movies.
How can I fix it? I have no clue about computers.
