code 38 error on sd memorycard......

I'm running vista Home Premium, on a HP Pavilion. Removable memory cards from
my Canon digital camera worked fine for several months, now all of a sudden,
its acting up. The card reads fine the first time I use it after boot up, and
after that I have to reboot for it to be read or I get this message in the
device manager:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous
instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

Anyone got any ideas as to what to do and or how to fix this? I've checked
with microsoft for solutions, and found nothing. Any help is greatly
appreciated.
Thank you,
Chartswife

I have this same problem. My SD cards won't work, but if I stick in a XD
card it works fine. I have installed the fix that Microsoft says will fix
the problem of SD cards not working after you have gone into sleep mode. I
have reinstalled new drivers and even went as far as reinstalling Vista
TWICE! The problem remains. Sometimes the slot will work just fine after
multiple card switches and quick sleep cycles, but then the next day,
nothing. I have literally tried everything. I like to use my 2gb SD
extreme 3 with the ready boost function, but this makes it impossible.
