My daughter has accidentally formatted C: drive on my laptop. It is an IBM
Thinkpad T-41 with preinstalled windows xp pro with COA. Is there anyway
that I can download or obtain a back up copy. I have the key for this copy.
Thank you for your help.

You should be able to restore it using the original restoration method
(CD or Recovery partition) provided by IBM. Consult the laptop's manual.

The computer vendor has to provide you with some means to restore the
system. They have three options.

1. Installation CD for the XP OS
2. Recovery CD
3. Hidden partition on the hard drive with an image of the drive as
received from the factory.

Check the documentation that came with the computer or contact the
computer's tech support for info on how to reinstall XP.

How did she do that? It's actually hard to do with Windows, and requires
booting from a diskette.

With an OEM version like yours, your only recourse is with the OEM.
Microsoft won't help you, and you should contact IBM.
