cluster fails when pull public network cable

B

Bill Malone

Have followed all the recommended practices for
clustering. I am actually trying to run Exhange clusters
on top of Advanced server, but the problem seems to be
RPC or network based.

Clustering works as expected before installing Exchange
Ent. Ed. Pull one public (all) cable and the cluster
continues to function).

THen install Exchange and configure virtual server. Pull
one public (all comm.) cable and the cluster fails. Will
eventually restart after about ten minutes--but for sure,
during those ten minutes it will not come back online.

Looking in the event log shows various RPC-type errors
and the cluster IP address has failed.

ANy ideas?

Hi Bill,
Pulling a network cable is not considered a valid test and generally
results in failures of this type. In general if you can move the group from
one node to another then failover is working as expected.

Hi Curtis, thanks for answering, but I'm a little
confused. Wouldn't this simulate loss of connectivity to
the "all" network? It makes me nervous that there is not
a graceful recovery after installing Exchange. Before
Exchange, there was graceful recovery.

Hi Bill,
It actuall does not simulate as the system can detect that the cable is
unplugged and not failed and this state is treated differently by the
system.
