Clips on Imported Videos won't play in Movie Maker

I have Windows XP Home and it's fully updated.

I import a video (regardless of video) and the intro clip or lead clip will
play normally, but any clips, created in the import process or by me, will
not.

It says they're playing and allows me to pause, but it actually isn't moving
at all. I can't frame advance either.

that's typical of files that don't work in Movie Maker and need conversion
before importing. What kind of files are they? VOB, MPG, AVI... etc....
where are they from? camcorder, internet download, etc.

Good shot!

Here's the funny part. The video files are .wmv and it's not happening to
all of them, just a select group. They were grabbed from a video device
using Windows Movie Maker on my old computer and saved for future editing.

I guess I should've saved them as AVI! lol

So is there any cure for my gaff files?
