clipboard to file app

As far as I know Vista (home premium 64), (nor any other version of windows)
doesn't have a built-in way to save the clipboard to a file. I find that I
often take a screen capture of the active window (Alt +PrintScreen) and want
to save it as a file. I have to open an app like Photoshop and then paste
the picture in to it and then do a Save.

I know there are plenty of little apps to do this. I am looking for one
that is spyware free. Any suggestions? also why doesn't MS include this
in Windows?

It IS included in Vista. It's called Paint. It has been in Windows since
Windows 3.0 in the early 1990's.

Install the Tablet PC components then you will have a "Snipping Tool" that
you can use.
