client with no DNS entries 2003 domain

James

Hi,

If I have a client in a 2003 domain with a valid IP address and WINS entry,
but no DNS, will there be any problem with it logging onto a 2003 domain?

Assume that the domain may be 2003/NT4 mixed or 2003 native depending up
project stage, but there is a possibility of some clients having no DNS
entry.

Clients will be NT4 or above.

Thanks,

James

Yes. It will take them a long time to log in and group policies will not
take affect.

Win 2k clients and newer use DNS to *find* the domain. WINS will not help.
NT4 clients will use WINS.

Hi James

If there's no DNS, you can't do all the nice Active Directory things like
Group Policy. If there's more than one DC, you'll have replication issues
also. Install DNS.

Kind regards
