Clicking on Excel File Only Opens Personal.xls

For some reason when I click on an Excel file in Explorer File Browser,
Excel is opening as is PERSONAL.XLS. The actual spreadsheet is not? What
would of caused this behavior to startup. I have to go to FILE/OPEN inside
of Excel to access the spreadsheets now. Thanks!

Hi Al,
Your personal.xls file should come up at startup, but it should be
hidden. http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/getstarted.htm

The file you last use should be listed in your File menu,
but there are a couple of things that might interfere with that.

Tools, Options, General, recently used files: 9
The maximum setting is 9. Watch out for software packages
that attempt to clear out MRU as that will clear out those names.

Tools, Customize, Options,
uncheck Menus show recently used commands first

David,

Thanks for the tip on hidding personal.xls, that is nicer. But my main
problem still exists. I can open Excel then go to FILE and open up files,
and I also see my most recently used list, so that is all ok.

My problem is that if I click on an Excel File in Windows Explorer (i.e.
File Browser) Excel opens up but it does not open up the file. Somehow my
association is messed up, not sure what is causing this.

David,

Thanks for the note. But I was able to fix the behavior by going to
Tools/Options/General Tab and turning off "Ingore other applications". Not
sure why that fixes this behavior but it does. Found some other newsgroup
notes on this. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
